WordPress portfolio – Finishing up

Add content to our WordPress sites

Open your site and go to the dashboard

Go to Posts > Add New

In another window open UVI Voice

Find the oldest thing you published

Right click on associated photos and then save as

Copy headline and text

Go back to the new post entry and paste in content, making sure headline is correct

Add photo by selecting Add Media at top left of the screen, then selecting your photo

Review your post and add recommended links

Save draft and go to All Posts in left sidebar

Click quick edit and change the date of the original post

Go back to the post by going to All Posts again, then selecting that post

Select preview post and make any necessary changes

Select visibility status on the right, then publish

* You should add everything that you have published in UVI Voice and on the Facebook and Twitter feeds as new posts

Let’s start by finding RSS Feeds

Try the RSS Feed on Journalismjobs.com This is the symbol for RSS Feeds

Click on the symbol on the website, and copy the URL when it loads

Go back to the Appearance > Widgets page

Select the sidebar you want to put your feed in, then drag RSS Feed widget in

Paste the URL in the box, give it a title and select 5 entries, then save

* See if your favorite sites or sites related to the theme of your site or to your career ambitions for other feeds

For Next Class:

• Extra credit assignment due Sunday before 9 p.m.

• Review the settings section in WordPress Dashboard to make sure the site is set up like you want it

• Review the final portfolio guidelines: https://stephaniehanlon.info/final-portfolio-guidelines/

• Add the rest of your published stories and posts onto your site with the correct headline, photo and date

• Add your resume and relevant experience as a new page on your site

• Post a link to the draft of your site by this Sunday at 9 p.m. to Blackboard
